Creating My First Group Mission Editor Sea Power

Back to main Mission Editor Groups page.

This is quick overview how to create group with surface ship and submarine.

First you had to create the "Group Name 1" group without anything in it. Now you get to name it, I'm calling it MyCoolGroup with side as blue.

Mission type is set to ASW Sweep with % chance 100. Formation I leave to default meaning circle and weapons tight.

Nation drop down I select USA.

Unit type I select the first on the list, "Adams-class (Early) (Destroyer)" where that destroyer parenthesis is just the ship overall type. Unit Name I leave to the default "[Adams-class (Early)]".

Now this unit data is just selected on the dropdowns, nothing is added to MyCoolGroup yet, I will add this adams-class ship to it by clicking "+ Add Unit" button once. Now you see units box having this adams-class destroyer listed there with red highlighted bar on it, meaning this unit is now selected, there are no other units yet so the only option is selected.

Next I'll leave Loadouts and Unit Nation untouched, loadouts depend on the unit type, these are to my experience empty on ships and subs, but aircrafts get various loadouts, and I don't know what unit nation does and leaving it unselected works just fine.

Speed I select from the dropdown to "Ahead 1/3" which is the slow creep speed, good for ASW hunting. Heading I leave to 0 degrees its fine for me.

Skill I set for Veterans, it just feels about right. Stores I leave to Full and damage to None.

High value unit, radars on, active sonars on, towed array out and towed decoy out I leave all unticked. Why? Well once mission starts I want to give those orders myself, if you prefer mission starting with radars blasting etc you can choose to tick those boxes.

Then its time to add the submarine to this group. Now roll back to Unit Category dropdown, choose Submarines, then Unit Type dropdown select "Los Angeles-class Flight 1 (Attack Submarine)" just because first option available in current build of the game was ballistic missile sub which scares me, I want none to do with those bad boys hehe, OK, leave Unit Name to default option which is "[Los Angeles-class Flight 1]", now to actually add this configured unit I'll again click "+ Add Unit" button.

Now units box got "[Los Angeles-class Flight 1]" added and automatically selected with the highlighted red (or orange-is) bar.

Next up is to give specific settings for this unit. Loadouts and unit nation again leave to default which is nothing selected.

Speed I set to same as the ship which is "Ahead 1/3", Depth is default selected "Shallow" which is fine, heading 0, skill is good to have Veterans again, stores full and damage none.

On the right hand side those tick boxes, I again leave them to default, I want to stream towed array on the attack sub myself on mission start.

One more thing before this group is done, click on the Formation Editor button to edit formation a bit. By default the unedited formation editor looks like below example image.

Sea Power Mission Editor Formation Editor

Now LMB click and HOLD on the bottom of that big red/orange arrow where there is a circle/ball and bunched up stacked text below it (you can guestimate that it reads those ship and sub names), then move mouse to move that selected unit so that they are not stacking each other. See below example image.

Sea Power Mission Editor Formation Editor Move Units

There you see I moved "[Los Angeles-class Flight 1]" which is the submarine, further to north west direction. The bottom right corner of formation editor shows default 10.00 which is the range of the current editor mode, I'm assuming its 10 nautical miles but cant be sure. PMCTODO

Then just click the top right corner X to close the editor, all done here.

Because this group is a surface ship and a submarine it should not matter if the units are stacked on top of each other because sub is underwater so there should be no collisions, however that's just an lucky coincidence doing sub + ship group, you should always, ALWAYS edit formation on a group that units will not be stacked on top of each other, bad things happen in mission start if they are stacked.

Now your MyCoolGroup has been set, only thing to do is to Scenario tab and click Save button which will save your mission file. Just make sure you already setup the correct mission file before getting to this point.

After saving if you click the play button you get to test the mission right away, or you can exit to the main Sea Power menu and choose Scenarios.

Both Adams class destroyer and Los Angeless class attack submarine are in the mission, congrats on creating your first Sea Power Mission Editor Group! :)
